Pandora gets Patron’s Award for Pink Ribbon work

The National Breast Cancer Foundation has awarded Pandora a Patron's award, for its large donations through its Pink Ribbon range.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation has announced that Pandora has won the Corporate Commitment to the Cause Award for 2011.

In an awards ceremony hosted by the Governor-General Quentin Bryce at Admiralty House in Kirribilli, Pandora was recognised for its work with the charity alongside researchers, community volunteers, philanthropists and celebrity patrons. The jewellery giant has donated more than $2 million to the charity since 2005, and has increased its contributions every year.

The money has come from the great success of Pandora’s Pink Ribbon range of jewellery. The brand donates an uncapped amount from the sales of the bracelets, which are available in solid sterling silver and 14 carat gold. Last year, retailers helped by getting in on the cause, adding a percentage of their Pink Ribbon range sales as donations as well.

The foundation has put the money to good work too, with Pandora helping fund four major research projects.

Pandora president Karin Adcock says the company is pleased to make a difference to the many women that are touched by cancer every year, and to support National Breast Cancer Foundation in their quest for finding a cure.

“We are delighted and honoured to receive this award,” she said. “We have supported this cause because we genuinely believe that research funding will lead to a cure of this prevalent disease. We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and understand that it is not just the person who suffers when this illness strikes, but their families, their work colleagues and their friends. That’s why this is such an important cause for us.”

A spokesperson for Pandora told Jeweller that it plans to continue its work with the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
