Jewellery Awards preparations begin

With over 100 entries, the 2012 JAA Jewellery Awards will encompass New Zealand for the first time.
Preparations are firmly under way for the Australian jewellery industry’s biennial night of nights, the JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards, which will be held in Sydney on September 3.

This year’s awards will be the first time in the event’s 44-year history that it will encompass both Australian and New Zealand designers.

Originally the brainchild of Federal Retail Jewellers Association of Australia president Roy Worfold, this year’s awards attracted 112 entrants across nine categories, with 42 finalists selected to compete for the prestigious Jeweller of the Year and Student of the Year awards.

Aside from the honour of being named the best jeweller of the year across Australia and New Zealand, the Australasian Jeweller of the Year also receives return airfares and accommodation to the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, while the Student of the Year is awarded a cash prize.

All winners of each category of the awards have the opportunity to enter their designs into the International Champion of Champions Design Competition at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show.

The September issue of Jeweller contains a 15-page feature with all the Award finalists and the actual jewellery pieces will be displayed at the JAA International Jewellery Fair in Sydney at the JAA stand, with the winners announced at a gala ball on September 3.
