Pantone influences 2015 jewellery trends

Pantone has sprung ahead to the colour trends for spring 2015 where the forecast appears to be decidedly cool, calm and collected.

Although spring has just arrived in the Southern Hemisphere, colour authority Pantone has provided a preview of the hues predicted to inspire jewellery and fashion designs for the upcoming season.

For more than 20 years, Pantone has been identified worldwide as the experts on colour, influencing the hue palette for fashion each season. Every year the company surveys designers, including those involved in New York Fashion Week, to establish the major and most outstanding shades.

Pantone's 2015 colour chart

Envisioning the soft and subtle shades taken from nature, the latest colour chart follows a minimalistic “en plein air” theme with an eclectic mix of tones – think intense hues married with pale pastels and nature-like neutrals.

The new guide is said to draw inspiration from the retro era, folkloric and floral art while colour selections represent tropical landscapes and a strong longing for the warmer months.

Commenting on the motivations for the trend forecast, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at the Pantone Color Institute, said, “There is a growing movement to step out and create ‘quiet zones’ to disconnect from technology and unwind, giving ourselves time to stop and be still. Color choices follow the same minimalistic, ‘en plein air’ theme, taking a cue from nature rather than being reinvented or mechanically manipulated.”

Explore the colour palette
The palette begins in a dreamy state with Aquamarine. Capturing a watery feel, this colour is restful and acts as a stress reducer. Contrastingly, Scuba Blue is an invigorating turquoise that splashes vibrancy onto the spectrum. Evoking a sense of carefree playfulness, the hue mimics the tropical ocean and transports to an exotic paradise.

Fresh and cool, Lucite Green has a minty glow that is soothing and transparent, while Classic Blue stands as a staple for spring 2015. Conjuring confidence and strength, this bold colour is reliable and harmonious.

Toasted Almond is a sun-tanned neutral said to be timeless and versatile while providing balance and warmth. Meanwhile, Strawberry Ice is delicate and charming and aims to emit a healthy glow.

Tangerine is a spontaneous and energising colour. Standing out from the rest, this hue adds vitality to a printed pattern. Likewise, Custard is a cheery colour that is full of mellow warmth.

Serving as the foundation to the spring season’s colour palette, Marsala is a robust shade that takes its name from the fortified wine. The red-brown hue is sensual and rich, pointing to a sophisticated, natural earthiness. Additionally, Glacier Grey provides another staple colour that is peacefully relaxing.

Given Pantone’s worldwide influence on colour, the latest forecast offers jewellery retailers with a reliable way to stay ahead of trends.

Below are some examples of Australian and New Zealand jewellery suppliers that already appear to be ahead of the game.
