Melbourne jewellery fair attracts new suppliers

A handful of jewellery distributors are set to make their Australian trade fair debut at the inaugural Autumn Jewellery Fair in Melbourne on April 30.
For Kiwi jeweller Julie Eynon, it will be her first foray into the Australian market. The Tauranga-based jeweller has 30 stockists in New Zealand and is looking to expand her base across the Tasman.

Eynon told Jeweller the Melbourne boutique fair will be a great launch pad for her jewellery because she expects it to resonate well with its attendees.

“Melbourne has a reputation for embracing unique and creative talent. I think my collection will appeal to the attendees as it has an individual, sophisticated style,” Eynon said.

Eynon handcrafts each contemporary sterling silver piece in her eponymous jewellery collections. Many of her pieces are limited edition, one-off designs.

The Autumn Jewellery Fair will also be the first trade event for Melbourne-based distributor Missardi which will be showcasing Italian sterling silver brand Blingissimo. Missardi began distributing the range in Australia in 2009 and currently has five stockists in Australia, all of them in Melbourne.

Duo Joanne Omer and Margarita Aljabary, who are at the helm of the business, hope to expand the Blingissimo brand nationally.

“We started off by selling Blingissimo jewellery to family and friends and when people loved the product as we loved it, we decided to make our fair debut and officially take it to the market,” Omer said.

Omer will exhibit a large selection of the Blingissimo collection at the fair, with an exclusive preview of new products that are set to launch in June.

“These products have not even been showcased in Europe yet,” Omer said.

Omer described Blingissimo jewellery as being “different and unique with its own style”. The handmade jewellery collection uses Italian sterling silver, Italian ballwork, cords sourced from Europe and Swarovski components.

Other suppliers that will make their Australian trade fair debuts at the Autumn Jewellery Fair include Jewel Trail, King’s Jewellery, Wolski, Cool Coconut, Lilac Lily, Shyam Craft, G.Kabirski and Goldlip.

The inaugural Autumn Jewellery Fair will be held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Melbourne, from April 30 to May 1, 2011.
