Pastiche celebrated its 30 year anniversary with a visual merchandising contest
Pastiche celebrated its 30 year anniversary with a visual merchandising contest

Jewellers rewarded as Pastiche celebrates 30 years

The winners of the Pastiche 30th anniversary visual merchandising contest have been announced, with the promotion described as a success for the supplier and retailers involved.

To commemorate the 30-year milestone, Pastiche retail stockists were invited to create window displays based on the current Inca and Evoke collections or as an ode to summer.

The major prize winner was Barney and Fleur in Western Australia, which was said to have impressed judges with its use of earthy, natural props and well-balanced arrangement. The store received a $3,000 credit towards Pastiche’s new collection.

Barney and Fleur owner Vanessa Brogan said she felt ‘overwhelmingly excited’ when she heard the store had won the competition.

“We actually put a lot of effort into it, and we were thrilled,” Brogan said, adding that participating in the contest forced the business to re-evaluate its jewellery displays.

“We did a lot of research into what other stores Australia-wide were doing with their displays and asked ourselves what we could do to add to that. It pushed us out of our comfort zone,” she explained.

My Jewellery Shop was awarded first runner up prize and its owner, Catherine Pevy-Trewartha, said sales and foot traffic rose as a result of participating in the contest.

“Our sales increased quite dramatically actually,” she said. “We had to do another re-order just so we had the stock to take photos [for the competition].”

Janis Martin, store manager of second runner up, Meleny Jewellers, explained that having a dedicated display helped to draw consumers’ attention to the fact that the business had recently launched the new range.

“We had just taken on the new range by Pastiche, and the new display helped to freshen it up, which made it a new talking point [for customers],” she said.

The first and second runner up prize winners received a $1,500 and $750 Pastiche merchandise credit, respectively.

Industry support

Pastiche director Amy Bradley said the competition was conducted as a way to thank the industry for its support.

“We wanted to acknowledge the great achievement of 30 years in business that gave a nod to the passion and creativity that is present in our company, our partners, our stockists, and the jewellery industry as a whole,” she stated.

Bradley also suggested feedback had been extremely positive, with many participating retailers commenting on the need to re-order stock during the contest.

The independent judging panel, which included representatives from the three buying groups, Mindfood Style and Jeweller, was asked to select their top three entrants from six shortlisted finalists.

Only images were included on the judging form and criteria included overall creativity as well as aesthetics and presentation of Pastiche product, branding and display material.

The competition ran from mid-October until mid-December 2016, and was open to approximately 400 stockists across Australia and New Zealand.

Major prize winner: Barney and Fleur, WA
First runner up: My Jewellery Shop, QLD
Second runner up: Maleny Jewellers, QLD
