NZ couple wins 22-carat Michael Hill ring

A New Zealand couple won Michael Hill’s competition to find ‘the world’s best couple’, keeping the rare 22-carat ring prize in the country where Michael Hill was founded.

Auckland-based couple Cameron and Shariyah Morris won the prize of a 22-carat princess cut diamond ring after completing 16 challenges that ranged from submitting their favourite photos and pet names for each other to a video showcasing their most public displays of affection.

Known to contest followers and fellow competitors as “Sparkling Shining Love”, the couple took part in the online contest for six weeks.

Michael Hill, alongside reality TV star Kim Kadarshian, presented the prize to the couple at Lavo Restaurant and Nightclub in New York on December 14.

After winning the ultimate accolade, an enthused Cameron said, “We want to thank Michael Hill for putting on an amazing competition that has inspired us to love each other even more than we believed [was] possible.”

Thousands of couples, from engaged and married couples to dating partners registered to participate in the contest, which was open to those living in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where Michael Hill operates stores.

On the company’s Facebook page, Michael Hill said, “Having worked in [an] industry that celebrates romance and loving gestures for over 30 years, I thought it was time to do something special and what better way to do that than give away a rare 22-carat diamond ring.”

“I hope that Cameron and Shariyah will cherish the diamond as a token of their affection for one another.”
