Conference set to take advantage of record diamond sales

It’s all systems go for the Dubai Diamond Conference on 21 February 2022, where hundreds of industry leaders and stakeholders are expected to attend and discuss industry trends, updates and the future of the international diamond market.

Organised and hosted by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the conference will be highlighted with high-level discussions on emerging consumer behaviour amid the strong rebound of the diamond industry despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DMCC was established in 2002 by the Government of Dubai to provide the physical, market and financial infrastructure required to establish a hub for global commodities trade.

“The global diamond industry has not just rebounded from the pandemic, it has come back with renewed vigour, performing significantly better than we could have ever imagined,” Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman and CEO, DMCC said.

"This will be a defining moment for the industry, with the world’s most renowned experts gathered in the emirate to discuss the future of diamonds, cementing the emirate’s position as a leading hub and first mover in the industry"
Bin Sulayem, chairman DMCC and Dubai Diamond Exchange

“This will be a defining moment for the industry, with the world’s most renowned experts gathered in the emirate to discuss the future of diamonds, cementing the emirate’s position as a leading hub and first mover in the industry,” according to Bin Sulayem, who is also the chairman for the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE).

In October, the US jewellery market topped international sales valued at an estimated $US7.3 billion ($AU10.37 billion )- “a record for the month”, while India’s polished diamond exports reached a four-year high in November and “all signs point to a very strong December with the holiday season,” he said.

“Closer to home, the Dubai Diamond Exchange has boasted some record-breaking sales through its tenders. DMCC’s ever-growing ties with the Israeli diamond industry are set to further boost regional trade and support the growth of the global diamond trade,” Bin Sulayem added.

The week-long conference will kick-off with the World Diamond Council board meeting on 20 February, followed by the Jewellery World Awards gala dinner to recognise and honour individuals and significant contributions to the international diamond and jewellery industry.

The Dubai World Trade Centre will be the venue for the Jewellery, Gem and Technology Dubai expo on 22 February to 24 February.

The conference will be capped with meetings by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and International Diamond Manufacturers Association on the 24th to 25 February.
