Newly 'invented' colour could see bolder designs and trends

You could expect to see more creative and innovative jewellery designs if colour authority Pantone has it's way. The company has announced its Colour of The Year 2022, which is predicted to influence jewellery and fashion trends in the coming year.

Pantone 17-3938, which will be commercially known as Very Peri, will serve as the frontrunner for the Pantone Fashion, Home, and Interior Color System. The colour was 'invented' by Pantone.

“Creating a new colour for the first time in the history of our Pantone Colour of the Year educational colour program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place,” Laurie Pressman, vice president, Pantone Color Institute said.

“As society continues to recognise color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

“Very Peri reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer.”

She explained that, “As society continues to recognise color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

The colour is described as “a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone” to inspire inventiveness and creativity.

It also comes in four colour palletes, which can be accessed and downloaded by fashion and jewellery designers via the company’s proprietary digital platform, Pantone Connect.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, Very Peri “brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue colour family, encompassing the quality of the blues.”

“Its violet red undertone displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions,” Eiseman added.
