“As the world’s authority on rare gemstones, we are thrilled to announce our recent acquisition of the Tiffany Muzo Emerald,” Tiffany & Co chief gemmologist Victoria Wirth Reynolds said.

“This remarkable gemstone, weighing more than 10 carats, is a continuation of Tiffany’s longstanding heritage of acquiring the most coveted gemstones that Mother Nature has to offer.”

The emerald is square-cut and was extracted from the Puerto Arturo shaft in December 2019. The gemstone has been praised for its exceptional clarity and transparency, which highlights its rich colour.

With no fissures and the emerald is close to inclusion free, displaying only a few found by microscopic examination.

Interaction and inspiration

The House of Gübelin has opened the Gübelin Gem Museum in Lucerne, Switzerland - a compact museum featuring multi-media displays detailing the origins and appeal of colour gemstones.

The company has operated since 1854 and the museum was launched in celebration of Gem Lab’s 100th anniversary.

Gem Lab’s rise to a respected institution is attributed to the late Eduard Josef Gübelin, a gemmologist known for his research in inclusions and the role they play in determining identity and authenticity.

Raphael Gübelin, president of the House of Gübelin, said the museum would expand on the exhibits over time.

“With this museum, we want to create a living forum for interaction and inspiration,” he told National Jeweler.

“At the very heart of Lucerne, the museum invites visitors to discover exciting information about gemstones and gemmology, jewellery and watches, as well as the innovations and pioneering spirit of our House.”

Gübelin curated the museum with jewellery expert Beatriz Chadour-Sampson of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
