Cartier hacked by cybercriminals in website breach

Luxury jewellery brand Cartier has confirmed its website has been hacked and client data has been stolen.

As reported by Reuters, the company contacted customers in an email to announce that a cybersecurity attack had occurred.

The statement said that limited client information, such as names, contact information, and locations, had been stolen. The incident was described as "an unauthorised party gained temporary access to our system."

"The affected information did not include any passwords, credit card details or other banking information," the email explained.

Julius Cerniauskas, CEO of web intelligence company Oxylabs, told the media that this breach confirmed that cybercriminals could strike anywhere.

"Attackers are becoming more opportunistic and sophisticated, targeting brands that hold valuable customer data, not just credit card numbers," he said.

Cartier said it had ‘contained’ the issue and improved its systems and data protection. Relevant authorities have also been briefed on the matter. The brand was founded in Paris in 1847 and is owned by Richemont.
