The Australian Opal Centre’s journey to the gemstone fields in three states begins on 26 September and concludes on 4 October, taking participants to New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia.
Visitors will examine black opal and rare fossils at Lightning Ridge (NSW) before travelling to Winton (QLD) to discover boulder opal.
The journey then heads to Coober Pedy (SA) to learn about light and crystal opal, before returning to White Cliffs (NSW) where rare opal ‘pineapples’ are unearthed.
Costs include charter aircraft, ground transport and tours, expert guides, meals and accommodation.
Amid the surging international popularity of opal, the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA) recently launched a first-of-its-kind educational course dedicated to the national gemstone.
