In December 2024, Minister for Economic Growth Tim Pallas confirmed a $10 million investment in Quantum Brilliance through the Breakthrough Victoria program. This came after an initial $8 million investment in 2023.
Founded in 2019 by scientists at the Australian National University, Quantum Brilliance is best known for developing a portable quantum computer that can operate at room temperature. CEO of Breakthrough Victoria, Rod Bristow, said it was a significant step forward.
“Opening the world’s first commercial quantum diamond foundry in Melbourne is a landmark achievement for Victoria’s innovation economy,” Bristow said.
“This investment will accelerate quantum breakthroughs, create highly skilled local jobs, and position our state as a global leader in advanced technology and sovereign manufacturing.”
A quantum diamond foundry is a manufacturing facility that produces lab-created diamonds, which are tuned and integrated into circuits to enable computing and electronics.
