Archaeologists uncovered the collection at the Dariyah site during the Saudi Heritage Commission's excavation project. The artefacts are believed to form a complete set of adornments, featuring floral designs with stones set in gold frames.
Other items include a large disc-shaped piece inlaid with symmetrically arranged coloured stones, as well as multicoloured beads and gold spacers.
The items were crafted using hammering, hand-forming on gold sheets, decorative pressing and stone inlay within gold frames.
According to the commission, these techniques demonstrate the advanced craftsmanship and development of gold jewellery making during the Abbasid era. Dr Jasir Suliman Alherbish, CEO of the Saudi Heritage Commission, linked the discovery to Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage.
"This discovery at Dariyah reflects the abundance of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage and its longstanding role as a crossroads of trade routes and cultural exchange," he said.
"It underscores the Heritage Commission's commitment to research, documentation and preservation, further strengthening understanding of the Kingdom’s history and safeguarding its cultural legacy."
Excavations also revealed architectural remains and artefacts from the Abbasid period, indicating human settlement at the site as early as the late ninth century.
