Lucara announces discovery of another monster diamond

Lucara Diamond Corp. has announced the recovery of a massive 1,305-carat rough diamond at its Karowe mine in Botswana.

The white diamond is Lucara's 10th recovery of a diamond above 1,000 carats since production began at Karowe. According to the company, the stone was recovered intact using its Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray system while processing open-pit and stockpiled ore.

With that said, its exact source is still unknown. Lucara CEO William Lamb stated that the recovery strengthens confidence in the Karowe resource and underground project.

"The recovery of our 10th diamond exceeding 1,000 carats is another extraordinary milestone for Karowe and further demonstrates the singular nature of this world-class ore body," he said.

"No diamond mine in history has consistently produced diamonds of this magnitude, and Karowe continues to set itself apart on the global stage."

In 2024, Lucara announced the discovery of a gigantic 2,488-carat gemstone-quality rough diamond at this site. Known as Motswedi, this stone was described as the second-largest diamond ever discovered.

Other notable Karowe recoveries above 1,000 carats include the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona, the 1,094-carat Seriti, and the 1,080-carat Eva Star.
