On 3 October 2016, five masked men, some posing as police, entered Kardashian’s hotel room in Paris. They bound and gagged her at gunpoint before stealing jewellery valued at more than $6 million. Kardashian later freed herself and, with her friend Simone Harouche, contacted authorities.
Most of the stolen jewellery remains missing. The items included a $USD4 million ($AUD5.61 million) ring from Kanye West, two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold-and-diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings, and a gold Rolex.
By January 2017, French authorities had arrested 17 people in connection with the robbery. Ten suspects stood trial; eight were convicted, and two were acquitted in May 2025.
Kardashian requested €EUR1 from the court, seeking formal recognition rather than financial compensation, and the court granted her request. Harouche, who was downstairs during the robbery, also received the same amount at her request. The court separately awarded far a larger payout to a former hotel receptionist for trauma endured during the crime.
In a statement, Kardashian thanked French authorities for pursuing justice.
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said.
“While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system.”
The court imposed prison sentences; however, since the suspects had already served time before the trial, none returned to prison. It also considered their ages, health, and the nine-year delay before trial.
