Second generation jeweller Darryl Tighe could not believe his luck when Expertise Events’ Jason Berman called him to say he had won a car. Tighe had been entered in the “Win A Car” Contest by attending the in the JAA Jewellery Fairs.
In fact Tighe did not believe his luck when he was received the phone call and insisted Berman email him to prove who he was.
“I said. ‘You’re joking, who is this?’, because my mates and I often gee each other up over the phone,” Tighe said. “I told him [Berman] he had to send an email through and two minutes later it came through. So I called him back and said ‘you’re not joking, are you?”
Tighe has recently been lucky because, prior to winning the car, he had won $20,000 worth of business advertising in a local radio station promotion.
Tighe runs Darryl Tighe Jewellers in Dapto, New South Wales, specialising in handmade engagement and wedding rings as well as clock and watch repairs.
The Expertise Events promotion was designed to stimulate retailer attendance at the trade events. For each day a retailer attended any of the three JAA trade fairs this year they received one entry into the draw for the Puegeot 207XR, valued at $19,990, giving them up to seven chances to enter.
Tighe was unaware of the competition until he arrived at the fair.
“I probably wouldn’t have went in when I did, I thought the Showcase AGM was in the morning, but they said I was 24 hours late,” Tighe laughed. “The funny thing is people were saying did you see the car, but I didn’t know anything about it.”
He said he had been looking to purchase a new car in the near future anyway, so the timing was perfect.
Next year’s JAA jewellery fairs will run from February 2-4 in Melbourne at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Brisbane from March 17-18 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and in Sydney from September 1-3 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
