Major trade fair approaches

The Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair is a key event for the industry,
attracting a global audience.
Taking place in one of the world’s major jewellery-trading hubs, the HK trade fair will take place between June 24 and 27 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Now in its 23rd year, the five-day event typically attracts over 16,000 visitors from 100 countries.
This year’s fair will feature 1,200 exhibitors from 30 countries – a 9 per cent increase on last year. The fair will also occupy 15 per cent more space than 2009.
Hong Kong is the world’s fourth-largest exporter of precious jewellery, partly due to its minimal trading restrictions.
In 2009, Hong Kong’s total jewellery exports reached $3.36 billion, helped by a 68 per cent jump in exports to China.
The fair’s popularity is helped by the fact that it runs alongside another fair, the Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Fair, at the same location.
