World’s most expensive toy?

A jeweller’s toy replica of a classic car – featuring gold, platinum and diamonds – is selling for double the price of the real thing.
The miniature Bugatti Veyron is made from sterling silver, 24-carat gold and platinum, with a grill made from a single 7.2-carat diamond.

The extremely limited edition toy was the result of a collaboration between English jeweller Stuart Hughes and Swiss model car maker Robert Gülpen.

“Just three golden Veyrons will be made,” Hughes told Britain’s Daily Mail, adding that the entire project “took two months to finish”.

Each car weighs seven kilograms and features meticulous design, including a working steering wheel, doors which open and a working sunroof.

The models are expected to sell for $3.4 million dollars – nearly twice the price of a brand new, full-size Bugatti Veyron.

“I know it's almost twice the price of the real Veyron but our waiting list is not as long,” Hughes said.

Hughes, 39, is famous for his unique designs using gold and diamonds.

He has previously designed gold iPods and diamond-encrusted mobile phones, and sells gold-plated Nintendo Wii video game consoles for over $500,000 each.

To make his creations Hughes casts moulds in the shape of the gadgets – a painstaking process that can take up to six weeks.
