Makers Mark Gallery hits trouble

A Melbourne gallery that jewellery designers use to showcase their work has entered administration, throwing the future of the business into doubt.
The Makers Mark Gallery, at 464 Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD, is a space for local artists to sell innovative designs to the public.

The business, which was founded in 1977 by Barbara Noble, appointed HLB Mann Judd as administrator on July 8.

HLB Mann Judd spokesman Sullivan Hollands said he was unable to comment on the administration: “The future of the business is to be discussed at the creditor’s meeting, which will be scheduled in due course.”

With regards to the company’s creditors, he added: “HLB Mann Judd is complying with everyone’s claims, consistent with the Corporations Act. All claims will be assessed on that basis.”

On its website, Makers Mark Gallery says it has “continually proven to be the place to for the most innovative, creative and sought-after designs in Australia”.

The gallery sells contemporary pieces as well diamond, gemstone and pearl jewellery.

It relaunched its website at the end of last year, stating: “We see this as a large step forward as well as the start of a new chapter. There's big ideas set for this space.”

Makers Mark Gallery did not respond to requests for comment.
