The Istanbul Jewelry Show – the region's largest International jewellery fair – returns next month, marking its milestone 50th show in 36 years of operation.

Excitement builds for Turkish jewellery fair

International jewellery shows continue to return overseas, with the 50th Istanbul Jewelry Show (IJS) set to take place from 7–10 October 2021 at the CNR Expo Istanbul Fair Center.

Sponsored by HRD Antwerp, the fair is organised by UBM Rotaforte and InformaMarkets, the latter of which also presents a number of other international jewellery fairs, including the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.

"Fairs make great contribution not only to their respective industries but also to secondary industries before and during [the] fair"

Sermin Cengiz, founding partner of UBM Rotaforte, said, “This year, there is an important milestone for the Istanbul Jewelry Show which has been organised for 36 years – this fair will be our 50th fair.

“Improving in parallel with the growth of [the] jewellery industry since 1986, our fair will rapidly adapt to the ‘new normal’.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, both the March and October IJS events were cancelled in 2020, with Cengiz emphasised the importance of returning to in-person industry exhibitions.

“Fairs make great contribution not only to their respective industries but also to secondary industries before and during [the] fair, while producing [a] source of income to more than 100 sub-sectors from transportation to accommodation, from food and beverage to booth producers,” she explained.

Cengiz added, “Istanbul Jewelry Shows in March and October 2019 generated an income of  ?164.2 million ($AU26.2 million) for secondary industries... excluding orders and booth rentals during the fair.”

In order to maintain a COVID-safe environment, the upcoming IJS will be held in accordance with InformaMarkets’ Informa Allsecure health and security standards.

This includes enhanced cleaning protocols, non-contact registration and physical distancing, screening for COVID-19 upon entry, and compulsory face masks.

Approximately 302 exhibitors from Turkey, Italy, Russia, the Middle East and Lithuania are currently registered on the fair’s website.
