The Silk Road

The Silk Road is an ancient trading route that connects Asia with Mediterranean Europe. Rather than being just one single road it is a trans-continental network of roads, paths and rough caravan tracks extending for 6,500 km from China, India and Tibet through the Middle East to the Mediterranean countries.

While silk was once the major trade item from China, many desirable goods like spices, perfumes, glassware, medicines, fine fabrics, jewels and precious stones were transported and traded for 3,000 years. The Silk Road was also an important path for the spread of knowledge, technologies, ideas and cultures.

Today, Silk Road Gems brings wonderful gems and jewels from countries in Asia and around the world to Australia. Silk Road Gems exports Australian gemstones and designs to many places worldwide.
