Chrysoprase: The Australian stone

Chrysoprase is one of the most prized of the chalcedony gemstones, valued for its colour and rarity. It is formed by the weathering of serpentine and consists almost entirely of silicon dioxide. As the elements break down, the serpentine, nickel, silica and other iron oxides are dissolved out of the stone and collect in cracks, crevices and clay in the underlying environment. Read more »
