Jeweller launches inspired marriage equality ring

Jewellery retailer Mondial has created a ring which aims to raise awareness about marriage equality in Australia.
The Australian Marriage Equality ring – designed by Mondial creative director Nadia Neuman – is a unisex ring that is available in 18-carat rose, white or yellow gold, 9-carat gold or silver. A limited edition collection is also currently available that features natural Argyle blue or pink diamonds.

The ring, which ranges in price from $300 to $1,900, is part of a campaign to raise money for, and awareness of, non-profit organisation Australian Marriage Equality (AEM). All profits will go towards funding the group’s work to establish equal marriage rights for Australians.

Neuman expressed her excitement to partner with AEM on the campaign, saying that Mondial had always been supportive of equal marriage rights, and that she hoped the ring would spark more conversation on the issue.

“Jewellery often holds a sentimental meaning and I would like those who purchase an Australian Marriage Equality ring to be able to look at it in years to come and know that they contributed to marriage equality in Australia becoming a reality,” she said.

The campaign already appears to have gained a positive response, with a number of celebrities being photographed wearing the ring, including Jimmy Barnes, Paula Abdul, Delta Goodrem and model Jess Hart.

“I have more LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) customers than ever before and it is an exciting time of change,” said Neuman. “It is exciting for me as someone who is part of that community to witness the change and I am proud to have Mondial so supportive of it.”

When asked if she believed more jewellers and retailers would be producing bridal jewellery collections for the LGBTI market in the future, Neuman responded, “I cannot speak for other brands but I do know that as the creative director of Mondial and creator of Eternal by Mondial I am very aware of the trends within the community and strive to cater to the market as best possible.”

The rings are available from Mondial’s two Sydney stores as well as its Eternal by Mondial online store, which specifically caters for wedding and commitment rings. The campaign is expected to end during the 2015 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
