Finalists selected for Australian Jewellery Awards

Judges from this year’s JAA Australian Jewellery Awards praised designers for “exciting” innovation after judging more than 150 entries on Monday.
Lee Pownall of the Southbank Institute of Tafe, who flew down from Queensland for the judging day, said: “When people enter this competition it allows them to explore different techniques.

“That gives them an opportunity to really advance their skills, let their hair down and design something that makes a statement. We saw some outstanding, interesting designs. It’s exciting.”

The JAA Australian Jewellery Awards has 10 categories, including three for apprenticeship/student designs and a ‘grand prix’ award for the most outstanding category winner.

This year will also see the launch of a new category – the Marie Claire People’s Choice Award. The shortlist of finalists will be chosen by Marie Claire editor Jackie Frank and the winner will be decided by an online poll of the fashion magazine’s readers.
