Asia prepares for jewellery fair season

The Asian jewellery industry is gearing up for its international spring fair schedule, starting in Mumbai next month.
The 27th India International Jewellery Show will kick off on August 19 and run until August 23. The country’s biggest jewellery show is fast emerging as one of the largest jewellery trade shows in Asia and this year will have a new section for loose diamonds and coloured gemstones, as well as an international product gallery.

The show is set to attract more than 700 budding designers, established designers and design houses and up to 15,000 global visitors.

For the first time, the country will also hold an International Jewellery Week from August 15 until August 19, to take advantage of the influx of tradespeople coming to the International Jewellery Show and celebrate the local jewellery industry.

In Thailand, the bi-annual 46th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair will take place from September 7 to 11 and has lined up more than 1,200 exhibitors in 16 key categories.

The show hopes to attract international jewellers and traders from up to 35 countries.

The Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair will take place from September 14 to 20. In 2009, the event gained the title of the world’s biggest jewellery fair in terms of exhibitors.

Last year alone, the fair attracted more than 3,000 exhibitors from 44 countries and regions. 39,000 visitors from 140 countries and regions attended the fair.

The event will operate in two parts. Raw materials such as diamonds, pearls and gemstones, as well as equipment and packaging, will be on display in the AsiaWorld-Expo from September 14 to 18. From September 16 to 20, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will showcase fine finished jewellery.

The two separate components have been designed to increase efficiency among buyers, allowing them to keep up with the latest trends and developments within the two industries.
