Job well done: Showcase completes successful AGM and members conference

Australian buying group Showcase Jewellers is eyeing a productive year ahead after completing its annual general meeting and hosting a members conference.

This year’s AGM had three core goals for the group: strengthening the board with additional training to improve governance practices, restructuring the board’s relationship between existing and future shareholders, and changing the legal name of the group.

The group is now named Showcase Jewellers Group Ltd, changing from JIMCAO Ltd to enhance branding.

Managing director Anthony Enriques said the atmosphere was upbeat despite adverse economic conditions.

“Given the current economic conditions, our members took the opportunity to buy quality stock at great prices. The mood was optimistic as members anticipated improved trading conditions due to the steady interest rates and the election in New Zealand.”

“The Showcase conference was a success for both members and suppliers. It was a perfect opportunity to strengthen connections with these key stakeholders,” he told Jeweller.

“Given the current economic conditions, our members took the opportunity to buy quality stock at great prices. The mood was optimistic as members anticipated improved trading conditions due to the steady interest rates and the election in New Zealand.”

Chairman Terrence Keoghan said that despite facing several challenges, the jewellery industry in Australia and New Zealand was well-positioned for the future.

“The company’s objective is to take Australia’s leading member-owned jewellery support group from strength to strength by providing exceptional service to its members, suppliers, and the trade,” he said.

“In a dynamic business environment, our ability to adapt and innovate will be crucial in ensuring sustained growth. This is underpinned by our commitment to maximising shareholder value while effectively managing risks.”

Creativity on show

Following the AGM, Showcase's conference provided buying opportunities for members hunting for new trends and unique pieces.

The conference also included business workshops designed to give members new insights into the market and improve relationships between attendees.

David Brown, the founder of Retail Edge Consultants, provided a presentation about the importance of preparing for retirement.

The presentation covered succession planning and managing your business during evolving market conditions.

Business coach Ben Fewtrell also delivered a presentation on digital marketing strategy, informing members of emerging methods of optimising website traffic and creating quality content.

Enriques said the feedback after the presentations provided members with much-needed insight.

“I think attendees found David Brown’s insights into these topics valuable. He is an excellent speaker, and we look forward to working with him again in future conferences,” he said.

“The highlight was Ben Fewtrell’s practical advice and workshopping elements, guiding members through improving digital strategies for their individual store’s unique businesses.”

He added: “Again, this session was very well received as digital marketing is increasingly a vital part of any business marketing plans.”

Showcase represents more than 150 members and 190 stores across Australia, New Zealand, and Vanuatu.
