Baselworld to use social media

The BaselWorld Watch and Jewellery Show has expanded its communication channels to include Facebook and Twitter in the lead up to its show next month.
Organiser MCH Swiss Exhibition hopes the social media tools will allow BaselWorld’s international guests to “engage in direct and uncomplicated communication with the show”.

BaselWorld intends to use Facebook and Twitter as platforms for users to comment on and discuss the latest innovations of BaselWorld with its exhibitors.  

“The latest information on the setting up of the show will be included in the profile contents, together with all the news on the world’s most important event for the watch and jewellery industry,” MCH Swiss Exhibition said in a statement.

Registration levels show that the fair be on par with past exhibitor and visitor figures. After attracting 1,915 exhibitors and 100,700 visitors last year, the show is expecting more than 1800 exhibitors and visitors well in excess of 100,000 this year.

New look for BaselWorld
A major revamp of BaselWorld costing CHF430 million ($459 million) is under way, and the first construction phase of preparatory work for the new hall buildings has recently been completed. The revamp will see the extension of halls, reconstruction of buildings, installation of steel construction frames and a connecting tunnel between the halls.

Actual work for the new exhibition halls however will only commence after BaselWorld 2011.

BaselWorld 2011 will be held from March 24 to March 31 at the Exhibition Centre in Basel, Switzerland.
