Francesca Jewellery partnered with the City of Hobart to launch the Bold and Cold Winter Capsule Collection, hosting a special event on the waterfront.
Jewellery from the new collection was placed inside ice slabs at the site. Participants were encouraged to melt or break through the ice by whatever means possible, with those successful keeping the jewellery hidden inside.
Francesca Jewellery marketing manager Francesca Mescia told The Mercury that the launch drew an impressive crowd, happily braving the cold winter weather.
“We’ve had over 100 people here just within the last couple of hours. We’ve seen some interesting ice-breaking techniques. A lot of scratching and using palms to melt the ice,” she said.
“As we grow, it’s always important to remember our roots, and seeing the number of people who turn out shows we have really loyal customers.”
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the launch was a creative way to engage the local community.
“This event was not only a cool way to showcase their locally designed jewellery, but also highlights the warmth and generosity that Francesca brings to Hobart,” Reynolds said.
“Francesca’s support for women from refugee backgrounds is currently being featured in the city’s Warm Hearts campaign, which is showcasing stories of kindness in our Hobart community.”
Francesca Jewellery was founded by sisters Hannah and Rachel Vasicek, who sold handmade jewellery at the Salamanca Markets as teenagers. The business opened its first store in Hobart in 2017 and its second store in Melbourne in 2019.
