Carat* chief executive Scott Thompson said the partnership was a “major coup [for] such a young brand”. Carat*, a Hong Kong-based diamond simulant specialist, was established in 2003.
“BAFTA approached us [to be its official jewellery partner]. We were both honoured and surprised but felt it confirmed the good reputation and exceptional quality of our created gemstone jewellery,” Thompson said.
Carat*, which operates two brand-only stores in Australia and also distributes to an increasing number of independent stores, will get to dress the award nominees and celebrity attendees in its signature grand cocktail jewellery.
The luxury jeweller intends to promote new pieces that have not been showcased to the public yet.
Thompson added, “Partnering with the BAFTA awards cements our position in the UK market and as a truly international company and celebrity favourite in luxury fashion jewellery.”
Carat* will hold a show suite in London in early May that celebrity stylists will attend to select pieces for their clientele. The awards will be held on May 22 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, and will be broadcast in Australia via Foxtel.
The brand has a modest celebrity following already, with its jewellery gracing the likes of former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams, Lisa Snowdon of Britain’s Next Top Model fame and the cast of teenage drama hit TV series Gossip Girl.
