The Council has suggested that suppliers, retailers, and consumers should use the day as a global celebration of natural diamonds. The date was chosen because April’s birthstone is the diamond, and the number eight is used to represent infinity.
“World Diamond Day is a collective movement and not a campaign,” the organisation said.
“It is shaped by the people who participate, from personal milestones to communities, diamonds uplift and transform. It is a chance to see natural diamonds through the lens of real people and real stories shared around the world in real time.”
The Council is encouraging participants to use social media on the day to post content acknowledging the significance of natural diamonds. Contributors can post stories using the hashtags #WorldDiamondDay and #NaturalDiamonds. The NDC also offers the option to customise social media assets on its website.
