The ancient treasure was discovered by Idris Thomas in farmland in Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd – a remote area in Wales with a population of around 600. After preliminary testing at Museum Wales, the bracelet was found to be 92.8 per cent gold.
The bracelet has been dated to the late Bronze Age (3000BC-1200BC) and will undergo additional study. Thomas told the BCC that he is interested to hear where the gold originated from.
"Some people never have the chance to find such a thing on their own land," he said.
"I thought it was another bit of tin foil to begin with, and I just saw a flash of gold and dug a little bit around it.
"I'm absolutely shocked, over the moon, and it's hard to describe the feeling.”
While an official estimate has not yet been provided, the bracelet is believed to be valued as high as £20,000 ($AUD37,590).
Thomas has been scanning with a metal detector for the past two years; however, his most notable discovery before the bracelet was a silver coin.
"I'm sure some people have been at it for 10 years and haven't found anything like this," he said.
"There's no stamp or anything on it, but I suppose they hadn't started stamping gold at that time."
Experts believe the bracelet likely once belonged to a man or woman of high social status within the farming community.
