Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook reported a 0.5 per cent year-on-year decline in group retail sales for the three months ended 30 September 2026.
Mainland China, which accounted for 83 per cent of group retail sales, recorded a 5 per cent decline. Hong Kong, Macau, and other international markets, which contributed the remaining 16.7 per cent, increased by 33.2 per cent combined.
Chow Tai Fook attributed the mainland decline to retail network optimisation and a high base for comparison. During the second quarter, Chow Tai Fook closed 263 mainland stores and opened 23, resulting in a net reduction of 240 stores.
Earlier this year, Chow Tai Fook announced plans to expand into the Australian market, beginning with a flagship store in Sydney. Sonia Cheng, vice-chairman of Chow Tai Fook, described increasing the company's presence in the global jewellery market as critical.
"Every detail of the boutique thoughtfully expresses the brand’s DNA: its façade is adorned with Chow Tai Fook’s signature shade of red, while its welcoming interior – articulated via American black walnut veneers and champagne-gold accents – awaits customers inside," writes Tess de Vivie de Régie for Harper's Bazaar.
"Scroll-inspired showcases house the brand’s jewelled creations and a VIP lounge is available for a more personalised experience."
At the end of September, the total network included 4,966 Chow Tai Fook stores and 226 locations under other brands. Fixed-price jewellery outperformed weight-based gold jewellery across markets. E-commerce sales also continued to expand, rising 25 per cent.
