Police seek mystery owners of ring

Detectives have taken the unusual step of releasing an image of a wedding ring engraved with the names “John and Anna” as they try to solve a mystery.
Murchison Police, in Victoria’s north, is now asking the question: “Who are John and Anna?”
The ring was in the possession of a man arrested on June 2 for a string of thefts .
The white and yellow gold ring is engraved on the inside with: “1973” .
A Victoria Police spokeswoman told The Age that the man claimed he bought the ring at a hotel in Footscray in March.
Police are looking to speak to John and Anna to determine what happened to their ring.
“At the moment police aren't treating the ring as a theft, we want to speak to the owner to see what the situation was, whether it was lost or the like,” the spokeswoman said.
Police have urged John or Anna, or anyone who has any information about the ring, to contact Murchison police on 5826 2222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
