                             Serpentine is the general name given to a group of mostly green stones that are composed of magnesium hydroxyl silicate. A secondary mineral, created when water runs through magnesium silicates (hydrothermal), serpentine has many variations that mineralogists have divided into groups and varieties since the nineteenth century.
