Kagi hosts jewellery events in Oz

As part of its push into the Australian market, New Zealand jewellery brand Kagi recently hosted a series of events in the country to launch its new “I am” collection.
Kagi designer and founder Kat Gee provided personal styling sessions for a number of celebrities in the lead up to the 2014 Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) Awards. Some of the award night attendees, including musician Marcia Hines and MTV personality Kate Peck, wore the brand’s pieces on the red carpet.

Private showings of the collection were also given at a separate event held at Luxe Studios in Darlinghurst, Sydney on Thursday 6 March. The range was unveiled to a select group of media professionals, celebrities and television network stylists.

Gee explained that she was “blown away” by the positive feedback from the events, and pleased with the support that Australian retailers, media and celebrities have shown for the brand.

“Australia is very much a focus for us and we are excited about the opportunities as Kagi continues to grow in this market,” Gee said.

“For Kagi it’s a combination of retailer and media support that will help us achieve market penetration – and that’s why media and celebrity showings are an important part of our marketing mix.”

The brand has more than 200 stockists in Australia, in addition to the 105 retailers distributing the jewellery line in New Zealand.

Kagi’s recently appointed general manger Richard Fleming told Jeweller that the business’s expectation of having Australia “fully covered” by the end of 2014 looked like a reality.

“We are a New Zealand-based company, but based on the size of the population [in both countries], business in Australia for us should be five to six times bigger than it is in New Zealand,” Fleming said.

“We also have aspirations to move to other countries in the near future, but for now our focus is Australia and bedding down our existing customers.”

The “I am” collection – which is already available for retailers to stock – includes Mondrian-inspired designs, crystal-encrusted lockets, pink pearls, new gold and rose gold designs and Dutch inspired tri-lucky charms.
