After three years of industry collaboration, the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) has released a draft of ‘The Blue List’, a glossary intended to standardise terminology used for responsible sourcing and sustainability. | Source: CIBJO
The draft includes precise definitions to prevent misuse and greenwashing within the industry. CIBJO president Gaetano Cavalieri said it was essential to improve credibility in the global jewellery industry.
“With growing demand for transparency, the absence of clear, harmonised terminology has led to confusion, even among professionals,” he explained.
“By providing universally agreed language and guidance for substantiation, we are creating a common ground that strengthens trust both within the industry and with the public.”
A public consultation on the glossary began earlier this month and will conclude in September. Industry members are encouraged to provide feedback on CIBJO’s dedicated digital platform.
The final version of The Blue List is expected to be released in October.
