Rolex Rippers switch focus to Patek Philippe, Richard Mille

London’s infamous ‘Rolex Rippers’ have reportedly changed strategy and are now targeting other luxury watch brands.

Rolex Rippers are criminal gangs of street thieves stealing luxury watches from unsuspecting people, often in broad daylight.

According to research, incidents of luxury watch theft declined last year (448 reports); however, they have increased during the first quarter of 2025.

In a report from WatchPro, prominent incidents, including the theft of a Patek Philippe (£325,000/$AUD682,000) and a Richard Mille (£235,000/$AUD493,000), highlighted the severity of the crime.

Detective Sergeant Andy Swindwells of the Metropolitan Police said these gangs have changed their tactics and are targeting brands other than Rolex.

“Ten years ago in Soho, a Rolex Submariner, which cost up to £3,000 ($AUD6,300) at the time, was the type of watch stolen. Now we hardly see them reported,” he told The Times.

“Today they are targeting ultra high-end brands: Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. These watches are worth hundreds of thousands of pounds and are very hard to buy.”

Swindwells stated that many incidents remain unreported and advised against visibly wearing a high-value luxury watch in London.
