Sydney Fair: New platinum technology making waves

Each year at the International Jewellery Fair in Sydney, the unveiling of new products and services is a centrepiece of the industry’s largest annual gathering. This August, Chemgold will showcase its newest platinum casting technology.

Earlier this year, Chemgold introduced a new transformative platinum casting technology for jewellers in Australia. It’s a process that creates platinum castings that are internally flawless, denser, and more refined.

Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) was engineered initially for fields such as aerospace and medicine, eliminating internal porosity by applying intense heat and uniform pressure within a sealed environment. This process collapses internal voids and densifies the metal, resulting in platinum castings that are stronger, cleaner, and more uniform in composition.

Chemgold director Larry Sher said that after a lengthy development and internal testing process, becoming the first supplier to offer this service in Australia was a point of pride.

“We’re proud to be the first in Australia offering this to jewellers,” Sher told Jeweller.

“HIP ensures our platinum performs at the highest possible level. It’s about giving jewellers total confidence in their craftsmanship. From bespoke engagement rings to intricate technical designs, it offers a real competitive edge.”

“Whether you’re producing high-end engagement rings or technical designs, it gives you the edge in quality, confidence, and craftsmanship.”

Introducing this service was a process that took many years, and an entire new level was added to Chemgold’s site in Sydney to house the technology.

It was worth the wait; however, and the feedback from jewellers who have used the technology so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Sher said it was sure to be a popular talking point at this year’s Sydney Fair.

“HIP perfects what is already a great casting — creating stronger, cleaner, more reliable platinum jewellery,” he explained.

“It takes an already great casting and makes it flawless internally. It’s a game-changer for premium platinum jewellery.”

The International Jewellery Fair will take place at Sydney’s International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour, beginning on 23 August.
