Graham and Oliver Cohen of Graham Cohen Marketing are the new Australian distributors of Town Talk Polish, a company specialising in jewellery cleaning products. It’s a brand with an unusually rich history.
The company traces its origins to 1895 in Lancashire, where it provided products to clean and polish Victorian silverware. Taking advantage of high-quality cotton woven at the region’s mills, one particularly important product was created – an impregnated silver polishing cloth.
The cloth’s ease of use and effective anti-tarnish qualities are said to have become the ‘talk of the town’, and thus, The Town Talk Polish Company was founded. During the 1920s, the company began exporting globally, and today, it is available in more than 50 countries.
Graham Cohen Marketing was previously the distributor of another jewellery cleaning brand, Connoisseurs, and has a long history of supplying the local industry. Cohen told Jeweller that returning to the International Jewellery Fair was an exciting prospect.
“I was at the first jewellery fair run by Gary Fitz-Roy [Expertise Events], all those years ago, and it’s been a few years since we attended the Sydney Fair, so it’s going to be great to see everyone face-to-face,” Cohen said.
“Australia is a very important market to our business and we’re going to continue to provide the same level of service that our retail partners have been used to for the past 30 years.”
“Town Talk was an excellent fit with our business, and after a soft launch earlier this year, the feedback from retailers has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s a very natural partnership; we have shared goals around excellent customer service and high-quality, innovative products, so it’s a great match.”
In 2012, Town Talk was featured in the award-winning television drama Downton Abbey, and the cleaning products are still widely used at historic sites in the United Kingdom to this day.
More recently, the company received a Royal Warrant from Queen Elizabeth II in 2019. This highly prestigious award acknowledges people or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services to the Royal Household.
Cohen added: “After reaching 125 years in business, this latest partnership marks the continuation of a rich history with many promising prospects to come in the years ahead.”
The International Jewellery Fair is scheduled for 23-25 August at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
