The 10.08-carat Glowing Rose was expected to headline the High Jewelry auction in Geneva with a pre-sale estimate of $USD20 million ($AUD30.8 million). The 12 November auction went ahead and generated $USD37 million ($AUD57.3 million) in sales.
“The Glowing Rose is an absolutely beautiful pink diamond, and it has been a privilege to present it to collectors and connoisseurs in recent weeks. However, following discussions with the consignor, the lot was withdrawn prior to the sale,” a spokesperson told Rapaport News.
In the days before that sale, another fancy colour diamond, which was expected to headline a separate auction at Phillips, was also withdrawn. A 6.95-carat fancy vivid purplish-pink diamond ring was expected to return $USD9 million ($AUD13.9 million) on 10 November in Geneva; however, it was also withdrawn.
Earlier this month, a stunning blue fancy colour diamond was the headline act at a Christie’s auction. The 9.51-carat Mellon Blue hit the auction block at the 11 November sale and returned $USD25.6 million ($AUD39.24 million).
The auction house noted that this was the third-highest price achieved by a vivid blue fancy colour diamond sold at Christie’s. The Oppenheimer Blue (14.6-carats) was sold for $USD57.5 million in 2016, and the Bleu Royal (17.6-carats) was sold for $USD43.8 million in 2023.
