34-year-old Trevor Jonathan Wright was sentenced in the US District Court to 219 months in federal prison after entering a guilty plea to a range of charges related to a chain of violent armed robberies at jewellery stores.
Wright has performed as a musician under the alias ‘Taliban Glizzy’ for the past six years. Between January 2022 and August 2023, Wright and 14 others schemed to rob multiple jewellery stores along the US East Coast.
Wright is accused of being the ringleader of a 15-person gang responsible for these crimes. US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro addressed the impact of these crimes.
“Trevor Wright and his crew terrorised victims from Northern New Jersey to South Florida, causing substantial financial loss for family-owned businesses,” she said.
The group used rented or stolen vehicles to evade law enforcement, with sledgehammers and firearms used to seize gold, which was later fenced in Miami. The 14 other suspects, aged 22 to 35, have been charged, with all but one sentenced.
