Ram raid shatters jewellery store in Western Australia

A Perth jewellery store suffered damage and significant stock loss after a suspected ram raid in Mount Lawley.

Police responded to an alarm at Matusik Jewellers on Beaufort Street on Wednesday and found extensive damage to the storefront, with most display cabinets empty. The following day, police announced charges against two men, aged 41 and 47, in connection with the incident.

Investigators allege one man drove a stolen Mitsubishi Triton utility through the store’s front doors, abandoned the vehicle on Chapman Street in Perth, and stole several items.

Family member Deanne Matusik told reporters that the property was severely damaged and the total losses are still being assessed.

"It is not yet safe for us to enter the premises and we are awaiting for forensics, so we are unable to fully assess the extent of the internal damage," she said.

"Despite the damage, we're extremely grateful that no one was hurt."

Police stayed at the shop to secure the area while forensic teams examined the scene.

The store's roller doors were smashed, leaving shattered glass and exposed wiring throughout the premises. Most display cabinets were emptied, leaving only a few jewellery pieces remaining.

Police are collecting CCTV from surrounding businesses and have appealed for dash cam or security footage to assist the investigation.

• Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
