In February, New York-based jewellery brand Foundrae took legal action against Pandora, alleging that two designs in the Talisman Collection infringed on copyright-protected designs.
The brand specifically cited Pandora’s Crossing Arrows and Sun and Moon medallions, claiming they closely resemble its own designs.
Pandora filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that common symbols such as suns, moons, and arrows belong to the public domain and cannot be owned by a single brand. Foundrae argues it does not own the basic symbols; however, it claims copyright protection over the specific, original arrangement and composition of those elements.
Despite the legal headache, Pandora has now added more than 30 new styles to the Talisman Collection, featuring zodiac symbols on medallions, rings and necklaces.
The pieces feature 14-carat gold plating and sterling silver, designed to evoke excavated artefacts. They include hand-finished mixed metals, faux-aged textures, man-made mother-of-pearl, carved cameos, and hidden Latin inscriptions.
In addition to the 12 star signs, Pandora introduced charms inspired by earth, water, air, and fire, along with other celestial, floral, and animal symbols.
