Five men in their 20s and a 16-year-old boy were arrested by police during a series of raids in Brisbane and Logan. Investigators reportedly uncovered weapons, including a handgun, during the search.
The group is accused of breaking into a Chermside jewellery store in May. The store was ransacked by armed and masked men in front of customers shortly after 5 pm on 10 June.
Police will allege that the owner of the jewellery store was assaulted with a hammer, leaving him with serious injuries. The group fled the scene in a stolen grey station wagon, which was discovered in Berrinba on 19 June.
Various media reports suggest that the heist may be connected to an armed robbery of a jewellery store in Lutwyche in May.
Detectives are searching for a 21-year-old man from Mount Gravatt who may have been involved in the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
